About Will, the founder.
I have always been a fidgeter.
Pens, paperclips, tweezers... anything within reach became something to click, spin, or tap. My hands were always looking for something to ground my attention. Throughout my life my focus came in bursts, and I struggled to sit still, get organised, and channel the chaotic and nervous energy flowing through me.
Getting an ADHD diagnosis was pivotal for me. It confirmed what I had suspected for a while, and gave me a real drive to do something with this newfound knowledge about myself.
I wanted to create focus tools that combined my love for design with the need to find my own focus. Most options felt like toys designed for children - bright colours, plastic parts, and designs that belonged anywhere but a professional desk. I needed tools that supported my focus without breaking the moment or the aesthetic of my workspace.
Tools that felt intentional and beautiful. Mature and mindful. Something I'd be proud to have on my desk.
I started sketching and tinkering at night, creating concepts that blended the mid-century modern design I loved with the tactile sensations I needed. I explored the idea that focus can be anchored through touch, texture, and controlled movement. I built prototypes that were solid, satisfying, and made from natural materials.
Friends, colleagues, and other creatives tried them and shared the same feeling - these tools supported focus in a calm and grounded way. They were objects to be proud of, not hide in a drawer.
That experience and passion grew into Focus Lab.
